Well, the Lampe family moved further away from the city (Atlanta) in August of 2005. I now have around a 1.5 hour drive into the city (for the rare meeting or lunch appt). We happened to pick a move-weekend when no one was available to help (Dan was in Michigan, Dave had school, men from the church had obligations, etc.). Kelley did most of the packing and my dad and I did most of the moving (Dave helped us out that night). We are finally settled in, and have some pictures. The land that we purchased is heavily wooded. Only around 3/4 of an acre is cleared. The rear of the house contains a small fenced off area (for the dogs). I plan on fencing the cleared area with a combination of privacy fencing (back) and horse fencing (along the front). We also need one of those solar-powered gates for the front driveway. My favorite part of the house is the woods in back. There is a path which leads from the back yard to the woods in back. If you walk about 60 feet through the path, it opens up into a large garden area . The former owner of this land had bush-hogged a bunch of 4-wheeler trails through the woods. We have a 4-wheeler, but I use the paths more for jogging. Trevor and I marked out a 1/5 of a mile circuit through the woods. I widened the path with our tractor, and we run for 45 minutes every night. Trevor and I also built a small firepit in the garden area. Since the garden area is completely shut off from any lights (you cannot see the house or any man-made lights from the garden area), the kids school is going to use it for star gazing for some of their science classes. We put some park benches around the fire pit so the kids can sit and roast marshmallows around the fire. For those that don't know, we have 4 dogs. The dogs have taken well to the new location. They get a little skittish at night when the foxes and coyotes are prowling about. That reminds me, we have blueberries all over in the woods. The deer *love* blueberries. Every morning at around 7:15, 3 or 4 massive does come out to feed. I've already priced out a large upright freezer at Sam's Club and I need to put a stand overlooking the blueberries. Looking at satellite images, I see that there is a lake behind the house. Except for the trails, the woods are very dense and I've only been able to walk a few hundred yards back. Kramer (one of our Jack Russels), took off under the briars when I was running the trails. He came back soaking wet. I'm sure the lake (or creek/river) is off our property, but I'd like to clear enough path to get back there (Halie loves to fish). Well, that's about it.
